An Open Call Reminder from NewTown

Project Summary

This open call is inspired by a fascination with music boxes, player pianos, pianolas, street organs and even Luigi and Antonio Russolo’s intonarumori – all instruments making music or organized sound through various applications of mechanical origin.  Artists from all disciplines are welcome to submit proposals, however, a major portion of review criteria will be the ability to create interesting, new music or organized sound. 

We Seek

Unique musical instruments that are primarily mechanical, but may incorporate electro-mechanical elements.  Instruments may be:
•    Instruments designed to make or perform original music, whether pre-composed, improvised or programmed into the instrument through mechanical or electro-mechanical means;
•    Unitary or self-contained devices;
•    Audience interactivity may be element.
